ONE CURRENT VACANCY IN GENERAL SERVICES
ANNOUNCEMENT REMAINS OPEN UNTIL POSITION IS FILLED
Under general supervision, performs related administrative and maintenance work in overseeing assigned programs and activities. Work involves general clean up and setting up tables and chairs and performing work inside during an event for the comfort and safety of the public; and performing shut down procedures after an event. Reports to the City Park Manager.
Duties of Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Receives schedule with any relevant changes, additions, or deletions daily; discuss schedule for the day with supervisor.
Inspects rooms for cleanliness for indoor functions including baseboards, windows, window seals, doors, door frames, cupboards and walls.
Set up for events.
Empties garbage cans; clean interior of garbage cans to eliminate door; ensures cleanliness as to not attract fruit flies.
Inspects and maintains the cleanliness of all chairs and tables.
Provides tours of the facility to renters; shows the lights, kitchen, air conditioning, and heating; adjusts the facility to meet needs; obtains microphone and/or podium as needed; arranges extra tables and chairs for additional guests.
Monitors and empties garbage cans during functions; monitors restrooms for problems; cleans up spills from the dance floor; eliminates potential falls or hazards; ensures garbage cans in the wet bar are emptied and cleaned.
Issues reminders of time to renters not to go beyond the period of time, which was rented.
Observes and ensures that the guests meet contract requirements and safety requirements.
During clean up hour stack chairs on tables, clean countertops, mops main room, lobby, kitchen and restrooms after the events.
Checks the refrigerator, microwave and warming oven for leftover items and wipe down with disinfectant.
Checks all trash receptacles, tie all garbage liners and place in the dump truck parked outside the kitchen door.
Checks windows and doors to ensure that the facility is secure; turns off the lights; adjusts the air conditioning or heater; sets the burglar alarm before exiting the facility.
Orders and maintains the janitorial supplies for the building and the park.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as verbal instructions from the Park Manager, written schedules and information from the Park Manager, written information to the Park Manager, and verbal communications with the Park Manager.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as facsimiles, written communication to and from the Park Manager, and facsimiles and work orders to the main office.
Refers to schedule of events, schedule changes, verbal discussions with Park Manager, contracts with renters, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
Operates a variety of equipment, copy machine, fax machine, Clover credit card machine, and insecticide, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as hand tools, broom, shovel, window squeegee, etc.; a variety of supplies such as latex gloves, window cleaner, newspaper, garbage bags, toilet paper, brushes and scrapers, general office supplies, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager, coworkers, Park visitors, pavilion patrons, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Clean the facility after a function including floors, chairs, glass doors, windows, air conditioning vents, etc.
Notifies the Park Manager of contract violations regarding the use of glitter and helium balloons.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by one to two years of facilities/grounds maintenance and/or recreation or related programming experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a current, valid Louisiana driver's license.
NON-COMPETITIVE - ALL CANDIDATES MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND ANY NECESSARY SELECTIVE CRITERIA WILL BE CERTIFIED TO THE VACANCY.
HEALTH INSURANCE: Comprehensive medical benefits options are provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana. Coverage is effective the first of the following month, following full-time employment. Dependent coverage is also available. The City of Kenner also offers voluntary insurance plans: DENTAL, VISION, and SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE PLANS (VOLUNTARY LIFE, CANCER, ACCIDENT, CRITICAL ILLNESS, HOSPITAL CONFINEMENT, LONG-TERM DISABILITY and SHORT-TERM DISABILITY).
LIFE INSURANCE: All full-time employees are insured under a Group Life Insurance policy through Prudential Life Insurance Company. The coverage is one and half times the employee's salary, up to $300,000. The policy also provides a Basic Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit. The premium cost is covered by the City of Kenner. Coverage is effective the first of the following month, following full time employment.
RETIREMENT SYSTEM: The City of Kenner's regular full time employees are enrolled with the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Louisiana. Both the City of Kenner and the employee contribute the required percent to the system. The employee's contributions are kept on account and will be refunded, if the employees leaves employment before they are retirement eligible.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: The City of Kenner currently participates in a 457 Plan with MassMutual. This is a voluntary investment program that the employees are allowed to participate in at a contribution rate of their choice (must be within the designated maximum and minimum limits, as set for by Plan Document). The City of Kenner does not contribute to the 457 Plan.
HOLIDAYS: Sixteen paid official holidays are observed, plus any other holidays which may be declared by the Mayor.
ANNUAL AND SICK LEAVE: Eligible Kenner employees earn annual leave and sick leave. Accrual of hours will increase based on the number of years of service.
WORKING TEST PERIOD: Upon appointment to a position in the classified service, the employee shall serve a working test period of six (6) months, unless extended.
EAP: The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a program which provides a professional to help employees and their families to resolve problems. This service is 24 hrs. / 7 days per week, voluntary participation and confidential.
