Description




The Business Technology Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and efficient billing operations, which directly impacts the financial health of the organization. They need to be detail-oriented, organized, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. To be successful, this position will use Colleague, Argos and other tools to assist with duties.




Examples of Duties






  • Focuses on identifying and analyzing business needs, conducting requirements gathering, and defining scope and objectives within Colleague, with a focus on student financial data and billing

  • Includes making recommendations for solutions or improvements to business processes using Colleague modules

  • Researches business requirements, develops detailed specifications, and implements solutions with stakeholders in support of student billing

  • Works independently with general supervision and may influence others through explanations of facts, policies, and practices

  • Ensuring new functionality, updates and bug fixes are communicated to stakeholders, and ensuring that business practices are integrated with new enhancements

  • Collaborate and consult with the Bursar, Controller, Provost, Financial Aid and other departments to perform data analysis, report generation, and to fulfill their data requests and needs

  • Ensures the billing system functions correctly, including troubleshooting errors, implementing necessary updates and fixes, and configuring billing rules

  • Maintains data integrity across systems, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and that student billing reflects correct charges and payment terms

  • Keeps abreast of industry best practices and regulatory requirements for billing and data security, and is able to consult on it

  • Maintains comprehensive documentation of IT billing system processes and procedures

  • Analyzes billing data to identify trends and issues

  • Implements updates and changes to billing rules, including collaborating with other teams to implement new billing logic

  • ERP Configuration & Implementation work focuses on programming and setup of the ERP software, using Ellucian Experience, Workflow and Ethos, for implementing automated business processes and data flows and integration with 3rd party applications

  • Building and developing customized applications and data mapping to support the stakeholders and business units of the university

  • This position is the IT subject matter expert for student billing and financial services

Typical Qualifications






  • Bachelor's Degree with Major in Computer Science, Mathematics, Business or related field or at least 5 years of relevant functional billing experience

  • Solid understanding and experience with Colleague or a similar ERP system, their core modules (finance, supply chain, etc.), and how they integrate

  • Proven ability to document business requirements, analyze processes and identify areas for improvement, translate business needs into functional specifications and conduct stakeholder analysis and manage expectations

  • Experience in managing projects, coordinating with stakeholders, and delivering solutions on time and within budget (though not a primary function, this role involves elements of project management)

  • Hands-on experience with billing systems, including understanding billing processes, troubleshooting billing errors, implementing system updates and fixes

  • Knowledge of billing regulations and best practices

  • Strong skills in data analysis, data integrity, and data quality assurance

  • Ability to write and maintain technical documentation, and understand general system architecture

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, active listening, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders (business users, IT, finance, etc.)

  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues related to both ERP and billing systems

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address technical and business challenges

  • Proficiency in SQL and knowledge of database reporting



Additional Desirable Qualifications


  • Experience in higher education would be highly relevant, particularly with student billing processes

  • Proficiency in programming, scripting, and database languages, such as Java and Python

  • Proficiency in reporting tools, or other relevant software used in billing and ERP systems

  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse administration
