About This Job

LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Orthodontics Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1 or 2. These positions are in a Career Progression Group. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Dental Assistant 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Job Duties And Other Information

Duties and responsibilities included, but not limited to:

• Assist dentists and dental students with chair side treatment of patients.
• Maintain and stock cabinet.
• Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques.
• Chart patients according to LSUSD systems (Axium Computer knowledge).
• Give fluoride treatments as directed by dentist or student.
• Give follow-up home instructions as directed by dentist or student.
• Place rubber dam and directed by dentist or student.
• Remove cement supragingivally from dental restorations and fixed restorations with hand instruments only as directed by the dentist or student.
• Implement and maintain infection control in the work area.
• Check inventory and order supplies when needed.
• Implement and follow safety guidelines as set forth by LSUHSC School of Dentistry and OSHA.
• Know dental terminology.
• Know correct nomenclature of all dental instruments.
• Knowledgeable of computers.

Additional Position Information

Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required. This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.
