Description:

The General Maintenance Worker I for the Department of Campus Recreation coordinates and performs timely and efficient fitness equipment repairs and maintenance for the Reily Student Recreation Center and is also responsible for establishing a preventative maintenance schedule for all fitness specific equipment. Additional responsibilities include establishing and maintaining on-going communication with the professional staff regarding equipment status and needs; assisting with oversight of student maintenance workers, as well as support and cross-train with the Maintenance Coordinator.

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 lbs. up and down stairs and throughout the work area
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs up to 24' in height, work from personnel lifts and scaffolding at heights up to 40'
  • Ability to operate and repair machinery and tools including but not limited to power and hand tools, pressure washers, chemical transfer pumps, 55 gallon drum truck and portable generators
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills
  • Position requires mandatory use of two-way radios
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions
  • Ability to work independently or along with other personnel
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Works effectively and adapts to different people and situations
  • Ability to collaborate with and relate to diverse groups within a university community
  • 3 years equipment maintenance experience, to include a minimum of 2 year's field or shop related trade experience in one or more of the following trades: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Automotive, Industrial Mechanics
  • Must have a valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs) U.S. Drivers license and must meet the Tulane University Motor Vehicle Policy criteria to become authorized as a driver
    • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in repairs of fitness equipment
  • 2 years experience in more than one of the following trades: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Automotive, Industrial Mechanics
