The Louisiana State Museum's collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our state's rich and diverse history and culture.
This position will ensure that the museum complexes and adjacent grounds are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. This position is trained for the proper use of chemicals and cleaning equipment. This position supervises and trains outside contracts and volunteers with the museum's cleaning procedures and protocol making sure that they adhere to Museum Standards. This position has to perform daily duties that expose them to with the public in and around the museum complexes many times dealing with blood borne pathogens.
Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.

Job Duties:
* Performs daily custodial duties to maintain sanitary conditions in the museums and adjacent areas.
* Performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, dusting, cleaning glass pane windows, and using the proper cleaners and cleaning tools designed for each specific purpose.
* Keeps outdoor entry ways and sidewalks clean by sweeping, hosing, and pressure washing as necessary.
* Cleans and waxes floors using industrial-size mops for cleaning and applying waxes, and using specialized industrial equipment such as strippers, buffing, and polishing machines.
* Clean the museum's exhibit areas, restrooms, kitchens, office spaces, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and polishing (without disturbing the artifacts, and items on display in the exhibits).
* Maintain an inventory of supplies and materials need to complete museum task, report to supervisor when any equipment or supplies are need to avoid down time.
* Is able to read event and function forms and aid with the setting up and breaking down of tables, chairs, furniture, and audio video equipment required for special events, banquets, and meetings. Aids with cleaning prior to, during, and after all special events, banquets, and meetings.
* Assists with the cutting of grass, trim shrubs, water plants, and performs other related duties on the grounds when assigned. Have knowledge to operate lawn equipment such as riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, and blowers.
* May be required to stoop, bend, climb or balance, kneel, crouch, sit, and stand on a daily basis as part of the job duties.
* Lift and/or 45 pounds including equipment and machinery, a part of the job duties.
Position-Specific Details:
* Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a full-time probational appointment. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
* Work Schedule: This is a full-time position. This position may be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. This position may be required to work overtime.
* Location: This position is located in New Orleans, LA.
